The first few days of school seem to have gone very smoothly! All the
students have done a superior job—they’re working hard and trying
their best! I am very impressed!
Thank you to John Schwartz for providing us with class pets! We now
have four guppies with baby guppies on the way!
Important happenings this week:

graders will be getting “chapel partners” on Wednesday. Chapel
partners will also serve as “reading buddies” on Friday afternoons. 7
th
& 8
th
graders will pick out a children’s book to read to their chapel
partners on Fridays. This should be a lot of fun for both the 7
th
& 8
th
graders, and the Kindergartners and 1
st
& 2
nd
graders.

grade vocab test on Thursday. Books are due.
Religion:
Books of the Bible quiz on Monday.
Reading:
We are starting
The Pigman
on Monday. This is a contemporary fiction novel about two
highschoolers who befriend an old man and dub him “the Pigman.” This
book should take about 2 weeks to read, and we will do several
activities as we progress throughout the book. The first Double-Entry
Journals are due this week. Each student has an assigned day to turn
his/hers in.
Writing Workshop:
We will discuss expectations/procedures on Monday and review the
writing process. On Tuesday, we will review the format of an essay and
on Wednesday and Thursday we will spend in-class time drafting essays.
Topics will be left up to the students.
Dates to Remember:
Sept. 6: - “Free-read novel” paper #1 due. Algebra ˝ & Algebra 1
